OGS 2012 conference parking

Great news! If one is staying at the conference hotel the parking is free and if you are staying elsewhere the parking is $12 per day with in and out privileges. Much better than the $24. Make sure you say you are with the OGS conference.

Have you registered for the conference yet? It’s less than a month til we get together for great sessions, lots of learning, and networking. Make sure to visit the exhibit hall where vendors have a variety of items.

As many of you may know by clicking on the registration booklet on the OGS.org site, the registration form is not online. We do ask that you copy the form and mail it to OGS at the address indicated on the form. We do apologize for any confusion regarding online registration. We are hoping that this will be in place next year for the 2013 annual conference.

OGS 2012 and the Western Reserve Historical Society

The Genealogical Committee of the Western Reserve Historical Society is planning activities to support the OGS Annual Conference in Cleveland April 12-14, 2012. Your members will be interested in these plans, as the Western Reserve Historical Society is located only a few minutes from the InterContinental Hotel where the Conference will be held.
First, the Research Center at WRHS will be open for extended hours during the OGS Conference. On Thursday, April 12, hours will be from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm. On Friday and Saturday, the Center will be open from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. And on Sunday, April 15, it will be open from Noon to 5:00 pm. In addition, admission and parking at the WRHS will be free for all OGS Conference attendees. They need only show their Conference registration materials. Research Center staff and volunteers will be on hand to assist in research.
The Genealogical Committee will have an exhibit in the OGS Conference Exhibit Hall and will conduct daily prize drawings offering WRHS and Committee memberships, free research time, and other prizes. Members will be on hand to answer questions and describe the research help and resources available at the WRHS Research Center.

Change in program

For those of you interested in the session by Deborah Carder Mayes, titled “May They Rest Peacefully”  this is the accurate description of her topic: How a nearly destroyed 1828 cemetery was saved, the story of Cheney Cemetery, Union County, Ohio and how to save, restore, and protect the burial places of our ancestors.

We apologize for any confusion.

OGS Conference Registration Booklet now online

Conference registration booklet.

We’ve received a few notes regarding not being able to find the registration booklet, or having trouble opening it.

On the OGS.org homepage, you will see the logo for the 2012 conference. It will state, “The registration booklet is now available.” If you don’t see it right away, wait, as this is a rotating home page and other screens become visible.

If you can’t open it in Internet Explorer, you may want to try Google Chrome, or FireFox. This isn’t an endorsement for these search engines, but another way to open the booklet.

This is also a reminder to get your hotel reservations quickly. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is having their induction the Saturday of conference. Make sure you have a room!
