Looking Ahead to the 2013 OGS Conference

With the start of school and Family History Month scheduled for October, our thoughts turn to where our genealogical journey may take us this year. ¬†Fresh from this year’s OGS Chapter Management Seminar sponsored by the Ross County Chapter, I am “ready to go.” So how exciting that this year’s conference will focus on how technology can aid us in our genealogical search.

The theme for this year’s conference is “Expanding Your Ancestry Through Technology.” It is scheduled to take place from Thursday April 25 through Saturday April 27, 2013 at the Millennium Hotel in downtown Cincinnati. There will be 98 lecture topics organized into specific research tracks, such as DNA, German, Irish, Military, African American, land, methodology, regional, professional and many technology tracks from national and state speakers.

Once the conference brochure and schedule are finalized, I will be posting about the research tracks, speakers, and sites you might want to consider during your visit to Cincinnati and Hamilton Co. You don’t even need to remember to check for updates. Simply add your email address to the RSS feed and you will receive an email when new content has been added to this blog.

As a life-long resident of this region, I look forward to sharing what I love about this area, so rich in culture, geography, and genealogical resources. Should you have questions, post them in the comments section and I’ll do my best to help to get you an answer.

OGS Parking at 2012 Conference, APG Meeting

Only nine days until conference! Here’s an idea for you. Bring return address labels to the conference. They are great for putting on ticket stubs for door prizes. Certainly saves on the time filling them out, and they are SO easy to read!

Good news! If you are staying at the InterContinental Hotel, parking is free, and that’s valet parking too. For those persons who will not be staying, but desire to park at the hotel, parking is $10 per day. Be sure to mention you are with OGS!

The Great Lakes Chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists will be meeting from 5-5:30 in room 202. See them at booth 25 for Brick Wall Solutions. This is a twenty minute consultation with professional genealogists. Times are available from 9-4 on Friday. Check at the registration desk/bulletin board to see times available. First come, first served.

We have been informed that Sandy Malitz who was to speak on the Palmer Collection at WRHS will be unable to attend. This is session T-2.

One of the new things we will have at this year’s conference is a set of papers called “Pink Sheets.” These sheets will give you information regarding the conference, a layout of the conference center, the room assignments, and lots of other very pertinent information. Don’t be lost, use your “Pinks!”
