Still Time to Prepare an OGS Lineage Society Application

There is still time for you to prepare and submit an application to one or more of the three lineage societies of the Ohio Genealogical Society.

The three societies are the First Families of Ohio, the Society of Civil War Families of Ohio, and Settlers and Builders of Ohio. Each has different qualifications for your ancestors, but all three require an application be submitted by December 31, 2004 for induction during the 2005 OGS Conference in Akron, Ohio.

Applicants must be members of OGS and submit applications proving descent from their ancestors. Applications can be obtained from OGS at 713 South Main Street, Mansfield, Ohio 44907-1644, or by telephone at (419) 756-7294 or Fax at (419) 756-8681. Also, the applications can be downloaded in PDF formate from the OGS website at www.ogs.org/about/lineage.php.

The First Families of Ohio society is open to direct descendants of an individual who settled in the area now encompassed by the State of Ohio, before 1821. Direct descendants of individuals who settled in the area now encompassed by the State of Ohio, between 1 January 1821 and 31 December 1860, may apply for membership in the Settlers and Builders of Ohio. Direct descendants, or collateral relatives, of any person who served in the Civil War--for the Union or the Confederacy--are eligible to become a member of The Society of Civil War Families of Ohio.

Each application requires payment of a $30.00 application fee. Each application must be approved by the respective lineage society committee and the OGS Board of Trustees.
