Home Access to HeritageQuest Ends 30 June

Mansfield, Ohio (23 June 2006)--Recently ProQuest (the company that owns HeritageQuest Online) announced that they will no longer provide remote access to members of genealogical and historical societies. Beginning 1 July, OGS members will no longer have access to HeritageQuest from home.

OGS paid for and signed a new contract with ProQuest in March; this contract allowed for members to have access through June 2007. However, ProQuest just informed OGS that they are not going to honor that contract. Instead, they are considering 30 June 2006, the end of the current contract, as the last day that OGS can provide members access from home.

OGS realizes that many of its members greatly valued having access to HeritageQuest from home -- and OGS was proud to be able to provide that member benefit. Unfortunately, ProQuest will no longer allow us to do so.

OGS is keenly interested in providing its members with great value for their membership dollars. The OGS periodicals -- OGS Genealogy News, OGS Quarterly, Ohio Records & Pioneer Families, and Ohio Civil War Genealogy Journal -- continue to publish the highest quality articles. The OGS Genealogy News was recently awarded honorable mention in the National Genealogical Society's newsletter competition. The OGS website has over a half million records in searchable databases, with more databases being added all the time.

OGS appreciates your understanding and support.
