Ohio Mayflower Society Index
The Ohio Mayflower Society, a part of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants, stores their member applications Nos. 1-2790 in the archives of the Ohio Genealogical Society. These date from March 1896 through October 2005. They do not include the paperwork on current and recent members of the Society. These are kept with the Ohio Mayflower Society Historian.
Be advised that the early applications generally contain no more than the form itself. Sometimes a list of references is noted so that the user can get some idea of the sources used. Proof documents in the more recent applications are similar to those found in any lineage group.
This database includes the State Number (order of filing), followed by the General Society Number, the Last Name of the applicant, the First Name (including maiden name) of the applicant, the Election Date into the Ohio Mayflower Society, and the surname of the Mayflower ancestor. Many members filed on multiple Mayflower ancestors.
The Ohio Mayflower Society does permit OGS Library users to examine applicant files. OGS Staff must secure these papers from the OGS Archives for patrons, and users must fill out a Manuscript User Form. This index was initially prepared by Ohio Mayflower Society Historian Ann Gulbransen. The data from early applications was abstracted by several volunteers at the Ohio Genealogical Society and entered by volunteer Nancy Strayer.
