Building OGS through Online Fundraising

November 21, 2015

Tomorrow, December 1st, is “Giving Tuesday”, a day on which end-of-year donors are encouraged to remember charitable institutions like the Ohio Genealogical Society through online giving. More specifically, OGS is participating in the brand new RichlandGives program, sponsored by the Richland County Foundation, to encourage giving to Richland County organizations. Click on this RichlandGives link and make an online donation to OGS – today or tomorrow, “Giving Tuesday”.

OGS has also signed up with the AmazonSmile program. When making an online purchase at this Christmas season, you may have noticed the AmazonSmile popup box. You are encouraged to select a charitable organization. Type in “Ohio Genealogical Society” and chose the one in Bellville (or your favorite chapter – some are registered under the parent organization name). Amazon will donate 0.5% of your purchase price to the Ohio Genealogical Society. You can also bookmark our AmazonSmile organizational link(click here) and support us every time you shop.

At the OGS Fall Conference this year, speaker Thomas MacEntee gave the audience an enlightening presentation on the subject of Affiliate Marketing. In this situation, a genealogy product is mentioned in our blog, emails, or website and OGS would get a percentage of any purchases through the link. Several such affiliates are already listed in our website online store.

“Social fundraising” grew 70% in 2014 and is on track for a similar increase in 2015. Our own GoFundMe drive to raise money for some shelving additions worked for us this year. Online giving is a new area for the Ohio Genealogical Society and we are certainly paying close attention!
