OGS Seeks Candidates for the Board of Trustees
As a leading genealogical society in the US, the Ohio Genealogical Society (OGS) needs dynamic board members to lead the organization into the future. Evolving technology and new opportunities for member participation and education will form the cornerstone of the board's efforts in the next few years.
A diverse board seeks out many types of individuals with different life experiences and skill sets. As we work to create the genealogical organization of the future, OGS is specifically looking for individuals with business management, financial, and human resources expertise. In addition, our planned evolution in technology means that we need to incorporate people with IT/technology skills that understand what's possible and can make recommendations that will advance our capabilities. Education will continue to be a focus of OGS, and we welcome individuals with instructional design and teaching skills.
Our board members do not have to be family historians or genealogists, but must want to work to bring OGS' successful past into the future. We will continue to push to make our collections and services more accessible to the growing number of people excited by discovering their family history. Above all, we are looking for board members who have strong skills, and will bring in a fresh point of view based on experiences at other organizations and businesses.
What You Can Expect as a Board Member
Board members are the public face of the OGS and serve as a voice of the members. You can expect to attend our large annual conference, and to represent the Society to our local chapters. The board meets on Saturdays six times a year in Bellville, Ohio at the OGS Library. In addition, you can expect to be on one or more committees which work to drive our society forward in technology, member relations, education, services, management, and to ensure our financial security. Current bylaws state that to run for office, the candidate must have been a member of OGS for at least one year prior to the election.
If you are not a member of OGS but would be interested in serving on one of our committees, please contact us for more information at email@example.com.
