Cemeteries and Burial Customs in Central Europe Featuring Dr. Roger Minert

January 21 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm EST

SOLD OUT! They are taking waitlists. See the email below.

The customs associated with funerals and burials in German-language regions of Europe are substantially
different from corresponding rituals in the United States. The layout and maintenance of cemeteries is also quite
different.
In this presentation, images are used to illustrate cemetery conditions and cultural customs associated with
funerals and burials. The presenter demonstrates how the individual or family grave and its appearance are of
great concern to Europeans. The question of death and burial records – often asked by North American
researchers – is also discussed in detail.
This presentation was updated during Prof. Minert’s recent 18-month stay in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
Dr. Minert has authored many books to assist the German researcher: German Census Records, 1816-, Spelling
Variations in German Names, several Place Name Indexes, Researching in Germany, Deciphering Handwriting
in German Documents, the series of Germans in American Church Records, and many others. He has spoken at
several Palatines to America meetings.
