Warren County – Introduction to the Library of Virginia Website presented by Shannon Combs-Bennett

June 12 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm EDT

Free

Home of the oldest permanent English settlement on the East Coast, Virginia was the birthplace of many family lines. Whether your family resided in Virginia for decades or just passed through, there may be evidence of their footsteps in the Old Dominion state. This presentation will cover the basics of navigating the Library of Virginia website for genealogical research with demonstrations of important, plus little-known, collections. All the while, I will be emphasizing what is (and is not) available for researchers due to records loss from natural disasters and men. By the end of the presentation, you will be well on your way to making some family history discoveries at the Library of Virginia.

Shannon Combs-Bennett, QG, is an author, researcher, and lecturer based in the Washington, D.C., metro area. She regularly speaks and writes about various aspects of genealogy from genetic genealogy to methodology. Shannon is a frequent contributor to several genealogical publications and websites. Her blog, Trials and Tribulations (T2) Family History, chronicles her genealogical journey and family exploration. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Indiana University, with an emphasis in genetics, which started her passion for genetic genealogy. Shannon completed the Boston University Certificate of Genealogical Research in 2013 and earned her Professional Learning Certificate in Genealogical Studies (PLCGS) in American Records from the National Institute for Genealogical Studies in 2016. She received a Master of Science in Genealogical, Heraldic, and Paleographic Studies from the University of Strathclyde.
