SUMMARY:Jared Mansfield Chapter DAR Lineage Workshops @ OGS
DESCRIPTION:Jared Mansfield Chapter DAR has been blessed by its proximity to the Ohio Genealogical Society. For years our chapter members have been volunteers for various projects at OGS. The time has come to bring the two resources together to offer research and application assistance to lineage societies who are finding an increased interest in membership following America’s 250th Birthday. \nAnyone interested in moving forward with research for an application or supplemental application (or just plain research) is invited to receive assistance\, including for societies such as: \n\nDaughters of the American Revolution\nThe War of 1812\nAmerican Colonists\nUnion Veterans of the Civil War\nThe Indian Wars\nMayflower Descendants\nand others!\n\nThis is NOT a presentation or program\, just an opportunity to do research with assistance\, if needed. It is $5 a day to use the OGS Library’s resources for those who are not already members of the OGS\, but the research assistance is at no charge. Bring with you any computers or devices you use for your genealogy research. Members\, prospective members\, and registrars of lineage societies are welcome to join us! \nFree tickets available below to reserve a spot; however\, pre-registration is not required at this time. A second workshop will be held on July 28.

SUMMARY:Kolping Cincinnati Genealogy – Photo Forensics of Old Family Photographs
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday April 19 at 2:00 pm\, you can learn about how to manage those old family photos that are an important part of our genealogical family tree. They provide a look back in time of family members and your connection with them. Sometimes we know the people in these old photographs are family but may not necessarily know everyone in the photograph. Using these photographs for genealogy begins with collecting them and then organizing them based upon the information currently known about the people in the photographs and associated facts. Digitizing these photographs allows for management of the photographs and their subsequent use in your family tree. \n• As part of the organization process\, David Lahrmann will review the types of family facts to be collected. The tools for digitization of these photographs will be reviewed and how these tools are used for viewing and identifying the details in the photographs to support their documentation and further research.\n• He will show a process to manage documenting the relevant details in these digitized photos like tagging family members you know are family. This documentation will help with eventually identifying unknown people\, dates\, and places. A few examples will be provided for demonstration.\n• While it can be a tedious and time-consuming process\, it is well worth the effort invested. It includes collecting as many family photographs as possible\, digitizing them so that you can study them on the computer screen and reviewing them against other photos and documents that have been collected.\n• It is also important to give your family members a copy of your digitized and documented photographs as they may provide additional photographs not in your collection. \nThis meeting will be “hybrid\,” being held live in the Kolping Cincinnati Klubhaus\, and online via Zoom. There is no cost to attend\, and all are welcome. Send an email to genealogy@kolpingcincinnati.com for more information the location and Zoom link. \nAlways check the Kolping website for any updates/schedule changes: http://www.kolpingcincinnati.com/Genealogy/Genealogy.html

SUMMARY:Kolping Cincinnati Genealogy – Family Tree Maker 24 (FTM24): Web Search and Publish
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday March 15 at 2:00 pm\, you can learn about one of the most powerful software programs called Family Tree Maker 2024 (FTM 2024). FTM 2024 is a major new Family Tree Maker edition that takes this program to places its creators could only have dreamed of when it was first published back in 1989. It is the standard for detailed personal genealogy research (https://www.mackiev.com/ftm/) \nIf you are new to family genealogy\, you’ll appreciate how this intuitive program lets you easily build your family tree with simple navigation\, tree-building tools\, and integrated Web searching. If you are already an expert\, you can dive into the more advanced features\, options for managing data\, and a wide variety of charts and reports. \nNew users may feel intimidated by a program with so many features. MacKiev’s FTM24’s functions are divided into eight major “Workspaces\,” accessible from tabs at the top of the screen within the application: Plan\, People\, Places\, Media\, Sources\, Publish\, Web Search\, and Connect. We have reviewed four of these in two previous meetings; People and Places in November\, and Sources and Media in January. Mr. David Lahrmann and Dr. Tom Montgmery will be reviewing two more Workspaces in the FTM 2024 software program this March. David will concentrate on Web Search while Tom focuses on Publish. This March session will conclude the review of Family Tree Maker 24\, covering six of the eight tabs. \nThis meeting will be “hybrid\,” being held live in the Kolping Cincinnati Klubhaus\, and online via Zoom. There is no cost to attend\, and all are welcome. Please send an email to genealogy@kolpingcincinnati.com to receive meeting information.
