DESCRIPTION:Join us on Wednesday\, October 28\, 2026\, for Mavourneen Harshman OGS Librarian Day\, a special event at the Ohio Genealogical Society Library designed for librarians\, society members\, and anyone passionate about genealogy and local history. The day begins at 9:00 AM and features a full schedule of engaging programs\, starting with a collaborative session on successful genealogy programming ideas led by the Northeast Ohio Local/Family History Librarians. At 11:30 AM\, OGS Executive Director Noel Poirier will share insights into the Society’s mission and vision for the future. After a break for lunch—box lunches available or explore nearby restaurants—the afternoon continues with a panel discussion on how libraries support genealogical research in today’s evolving landscape. A guided tour of the OGS Library and Archives rounds out the day\, with opportunities for independent research and exploration. Whether you’re looking for programming inspiration\, research strategies\, or community connection\, this event offers valuable takeaways for all. \nFull Schedule \nWednesday\, October 28\, 2026 \n9:00 am – Doors Open/Mingle Time – Coffee and light refreshments \n9:30 am – Greetings and Introductions from OGS Staff \n10:00 am – First Program “Innovative Approaches: Genealogy Program Exchange for Libraries and Societies” – Programming can be challenging\, so let’s learn from each other! Societies and libraries are invited to attend and share events and programs that were impactful. Presented by members of the Northeast Ohio Local/Family History Librarians \n11:30 am – OGS Presentation “Who Are We?” – OGS Executive Director Noel Poirier shares what the OGS is\, what we do\, and our plans for the future. \n12:30 pm – Lunch – Box lunches available and there are many nearby restaurants and fast food retailers \n1:30 pm – Second Program “Tips\, Tactics\, & Tools for History Librarians” – A panel from the Northeast Ohio Local/Family History Librarians discuss tips and tactics for maintaining local/family history collections\, conducting efficient reference interviews\, and guiding patrons to effective research questions. Free tools and resources will also be shared. Presented by members of the Northeast Ohio Local/Family History Librarians \n3:00 pm – Library Tour – Librarian Linda Swanson and Archivist Jenna Kish lead a guided tour of the library and archives for those interested.
