Recruited in Portsmouth\, Ohio\, they served with distinction\, earning their “Gibbs Battery” nickname and having a monument at Gettysburg marking their heroic stand\, where they held their position under heavy fire\, as detailed in Captain F.C. Gibbs’ reports.
