Ohio's Revolutionary War Veterans Index
This is an index of 8,220 veterans of the American Revolutionary War who lived in Ohio and who may have been buried in this state. This is a work-in-progress and it will expand as new information is found.
The index contains the name of the veteran, the counties where he lived and died, his rank, type of service, and the unit in which he served. The type of service includes line (Continental Army), state troops, state militia, naval, and levies. Many veterans have more than one type of service.
Some veterans are listed in more than one county because after the veteran had died, the county boundaries had changed, or the veteran moved from one county to another, or the veteran lived in one county and was buried in another county. This index is a guideline for research.
Searching
This database may be searched in the following ways:
- Fuzzy -- will search for that string of characters. Searching for Johns will yield Johns, Johnson, Johnston, etc.
- Exact -- will search for that exact text only. Searching for Johns would yield only Johns.
- Soundex -- will search for Soundex equivalent. Searching for Johns would yield Johns, Jonns, Jones, etc.
