Important Update: OGS Transitioning to Digital Publications in 2026

October 2, 2025

We want to share with you an important change coming to the Ohio Genealogical Society’s publications. Beginning in 2026 OGS memberships will include only digital versions of the Ohio Genealogical Society Quarterly and The Ohio Genealogy News.

This decision was made after careful consideration, and we’d like to share the key reasons behind the transition:

  • Moving to digital will save OGS more than $50,000 each year in printing and mailing costs—funds we can reinvest into OGS programs and services.
  • Genealogical societies and similar organizations across the country are increasingly moving away from printed and mailed publications.
  • Digital distribution eliminates the waste associated with unused or discarded printed copies.

We recognize that some members may still wish to have printed versions for their shelves. To meet that need, we will offer members the opportunity to purchase single, bound volumes at the end of each publishing year, containing that year’s issues of the OGSQ and/or OGN.

For members who paid the $20 hard copy fee in 2025, you will have the option to either receive a refund or allow that fee to be considered a donation in support of OGS.

We are grateful for your support and understanding as we make this transition. Going digital ensures that OGS remains sustainable, responsive to member needs, and aligned with the future of genealogical publishing.

Thank you for being part of the OGS community. Together, we continue to preserve and share Ohio’s genealogical heritage.
