7 – ELECTIONS BALLOT AND VOTING PROCEDURE
7.A The Nomination and Election Committee shall notify the membership in the summer issue of the Ohio Genealogy News and on the Ohio Genealogical website that written nominations will be received for all Officers and/or Trustees to be elected in the coming year.
Everyone has something they can share. No experience is needed, just a willingness to help OGS grow to become the best STATE society we can. What are we doing that we could be doing better? What are we NOT doing that you think would benefit OGS?
When I first joined OGS and started going to Conference in the mid-90s, I was intimidated by the board members, never thinking I would be a board member, let alone an officer. I joined the Board in a roundabout way. I started when the former chairs of Settlers and Builders of Ohio were looking for a new chair back in 2009. I could do that, so I volunteered, and they chose me. (I’m still the chair.) After that, some of the needs of my local chapter weren’t addressed after we asked for help. I ran for the trustee position and was elected. I hoped I made a difference then. The same thing happened again, only this time it was with an officer. I ran for that position and was just re-elected earlier this year for my 2nd three-year term. I still hope I am making a difference, and my contributions to the Board help.
There are six board meetings a year, January, March, May, July, September, and November. We have the ability now to Zoom into meetings, and our January meeting is generally a Zoom meeting because of the unpredictability of the weather. If you wish to know more, our meetings are open to anyone who wants to join us, and please do come and join us.

I’ll be happy to answer questions and send you a nomination form. We are currently looking for members for our next election, which will begin January 1st. All nominations need to be in the OGS office by October 1st.
