Randy is the Commander of the Portsmouth Ohio Gibb’s Battery L and Commander of the Camp Vienna Chapter of the Son’s of Union Veterans of the Civil War.
Gibbs Battery (Battery L, 1st Ohio Light Artillery) was a notable Civil War artillery unit, famous for its critical action at the Battle of Gettysburg on July 2-3, 1863, on the north slope of Little Round Top, defending the Union left flank against Confederate attacks. Recruited in Portsmouth, Ohio, they served with distinction, earning their “Gibbs Battery” nickname and having a monument at Gettysburg marking their heroic stand, where they held their position under heavy fire, as detailed in Captain F.C. Gibbs’ reports.
